Suggestions:

Repeat your ruling. This is more for you to stick with it, than for him. “Teeth need to be cleaned.” “The car doesn’t drive until everyone is buckled in!” “Dishwasher gets emptied before we play.”

Wear earplugs to lessen the loud sounds of crying and protest.

Stop talking and just do it.

Acknowledge his feelings but continue the action such as putting him in his car-seat. “I know you feel restrained in this seat. We need to be safe.”

The more the routine, the less the struggle. They get used to it.

Say, “Here are your two choices,” or “Let’s make a deal!”

Never ask a question where they could give a “yes” or “no” answer such as “Let’s get your boots on, okay?” Say, “Will you go and get your boots or would you like Mommy to get your boots?” Either way, they are getting their boots.

What is their true need? Behavior is only a symptom.

Use distraction for yourself – music player, drinking water, reading a magazine – anything to take the focus off the child.
